Street dogs were shot to death in Pallanchery village near Guduvanchery on Thursday evening. Two men were arrested in this connection.

Dawn Williams, general manager of Blue Cross of India, said, on Thursday evening, they were alerted by residents about a group of men that was shooting down dogs in Pallanchery.

A team of Blue Cross volunteers reached the place around 5 p.m. and saw the men killing the dogs and dragging the carcasses away on motorcycles. The volunteers informed the Guduvanchery police and two men involved in the act, Muthusami and Chinnakannu, were arrested. Another person is absconding.

A case has been registered against the men under Section 428 of the Indian Penal Code and under provisions of the Arms Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
