‘The Alladi Diary’ represents a slice of history of Indian science itself, with moments of glory and founding of institutions and brings out the importance of individuals, giants in the field of science, far thinking politicians, and others in shaping the history of our nation,” N. Ravi, Publisher, The Hindu said.
Speaking at the launch of the book ‘The Alladi Diary’, memoirs of Alladi Ramakrishnan, creator of Matscience, The Indian Mathematical Society, Mr. Ravi said, “He always aimed for the highest standards anywhere and he had the confidence to move among the greatest minds in science; [he had] no hesitation in inviting them to Chennai for theoretical physics seminar or Matscience”.
Mr. Ravi also recalled his various meetings with late Mr. Ramakrishnan, and said he had an uncompromising quest for quality and infused that in students and those who came into contact with him.
The event was held at the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation here on Wednesday. Prof. Swaminathan, who released the book, recalled his relationship with Mr. Ramakrishnan and shared anecdotes as to how the late Mr. Ramakrishnan would call him every day morning and would regularly tell him, “I have solved this equation”.
Mr. Ramakrishnan’s son, Krishnaswami Alladi, gave a presentation on the life his father’s life and explained the contents of the book. Former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi and Prof. M. Anandakrishnan, former Vice Chancellor, Anna University also spoke.
