AIADMK used ‘innovative’ methods: CPI

June 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:47 am IST - CHENNAI:

The CPI will launch a people’s movement to prevent buying of votes , said its leader C.Mahendran on Saturday.

Alleging that the ruling party implemented an innovative method of buying votes from the electors in R.K. Nagar Assembly Constituency, Mr.Mahendran said the existing system of elections should undergo a change.

“We have requested the Election Commission to screen data related to at least 20 stations with reports of booth capturing on Saturday. The list of the booths has been given to the officials concerned. They have to take action,” said Mr.Mahendran.

Signifying a huge victory for AIADMK, he said, “We are not concerned about victory or defeat in this by-election. We just want to use the political space to shape public opinion on selling of votes.”

“Brisk polling is reported in R.K. Nagar because of a formula devised by the ruling party to effectively buy the votes. They have collected data about all the families in R.K. Nagar to offer them targeted welfare measures based on each one’s need,” Mr. Mahendran said.

“ This is equivalent to buying of votes,” he charged.
