AIADMK launches logo, app of News J

As former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s friend Sasikala’s family still controls Jaya TV, which used to be the channel for the AIADMK cadre, the ruling party has launched the logo, website and an app for its own forthcoming channel ‘News J’.

The soon-to-be launched channel’s logo was launched jointly by AIADMK coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and party co-coordinator and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami here on Wednesday.

“Today, almost all political parties have channels. A TV that was set up by our Amma [former CM Jayalalithaa] with our partymen has gone to someone, to whom the TV is not supposed to go to. So, this [News J] would be its substitute,” Mr. Palaniswami said.

“We believe that this TV would be a bridge to take the welfare schemes being implemented by Amma’s government to the people,” he said at the launch function. Though there are several TV channels, they were not taking government schemes to the people, he claimed.

Taking a dig at TV channels for the extensive coverage of opposition party leaders, Mr. Palaniswami said TV channels telecast government’s welfare schemes only once.

“But, when an opposition leader finds fault with us, they telecast his statements repeatedly all through the day,” he said.

Several milestones

Though his government has achieved several milestones in agriculture, electricity, health and transport among others, the channels show them only for a limited time, he said.

“Only when our achievements are broadcast repeatedly, it will reach the people and we can get a place in their minds,” he said, expecting the new channel would help a great deal towards that. ‘News J’ would telecast the party’s public meetings, he added.

Earlier, Mr. Panneerselvam claimed that the TV channel would be neutral while telecasting news. “We were longing to get a TV channel for ourselves and we — I, along with our partymen — are looking forward to see our dream come true.”

Later during the function, the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister also launched a tree planting campaign on behalf of the channel.

Party’s presidium chairman E. Madhusudanan, senior party functionaries and former Ministers K.P. Munusamy, R. Vaithilingam, C. Ponnaiyan, News J’s Managing Director C.Ve. Radhakrishnan and channel’s CEO Hansraj Saxena were present.
