A large number of students of the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, a deemed university in Kattankulathur near Chennai, staged a protest on the campus late on Thursday night demanding action against a man who had exhibited sexually inappropriate behaviour.
Following the massive protest, Police arrested Arjunan (28), a casual worker at the university, who had allegedly flashed when a girl student had entered the lift on Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened when the girl, a second year student, had entered the lift in the ladies’ hostel block. Demanding action against him, the students staged a protest that lasted beyond midnight.
On Friday, the police arrested Arjunan, who hails from Chettupunyam village near Singaperumal Koil on a complaint lodged by the university authorities. The university officials claimed that he was employed on a temporary basis only a fortnight ago and his services have been terminated.
