The Egmore Police have booked a criminal case against two advocates who allegedly abused and assaulted police personnel while the latter were producing a batch of accused in the Egmore court.

Police said personnel attached with the Armed Reserve unit escorted 26 accused to be produced for proceedings.

In conversation

While the accused were sitting in the van in the court campus, the advocates — Anandbabu and Vijayakumar — were engaged in a conversation with them. When the police escort team objected to this, the advocates abused and threatened them.

Based on a complaint given by a constable, the Egmore police booked a case under sections 294b (uttering obscene words), 353 (Assault on public servant from discharging his duties) and 506(ii)(Criminal intimidation) of IPC.
