The Madurai Bench of the Madras on Thursday took serious note of the alleged involvement of a few advocates in illegally taking possession of a property and setting up an advocate’s office on the premises.
The court was hearing a petition which sought a direction for restoration of the property in Natham, to its rightful owner. Taking cognisance of the pending complaint before the Dindigul police in this regard, the court observed that such so-called advocates were a shame to the profession.
Justice N. Anand Venkatesh pointed out that the court has time and again taken serious note of such notorious advocates and initiated action against them. Instead of carrying out their duties, the advocates (involved in the case) are indulging in anti-social activities. The court could not shut its eyes on such incidents and it is its duty to safeguard the purity and status of the institution, the judge said. The court has suo motu impleaded the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the case to look into the issue. It has directed the Superintendent of Police, Dindigul district, to provide protection to the rightful owner and posted the case for further hearing on September 27.
