A display board at West Tambaram bus terminus causes confusion

It misguides commuters about the starting and halting points of many route numbers

Commuters boarding MTC buses from West Tambaram bus terminus have no clue about the starting and the ending points for a few route numbers.

For instance, a display board at the halting point for buses to Adyar, Velachery and T. Nagar displays route numbers 1B, B18, 66, 91 166, 266, which actually ply to Thiruvottiyur, Korukkupet, Poonamallee, Thiruvanmiyur, Iyyappathangal and Avadi. Besides, the board also indicates route numbers 579 and 583, which actually ply from Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) terminal to Sriperumbudur and Walajabad.

The halting point for 579 and 583 is located near Tambaram flyover, connecting Velachery Main Road, Grand Southern Trunk Road and Mudichur Road. The halting points towards Adyar and Sriperumbudur are located on eastern lane of Grand Southern Trunk Road. Before, proceeding to the stopover, MTC drivers of these route numbers drop commuters near the flyover on the western lane of GST Road.

Seeing the board, a section of commuters wait at the wrong halting point. When the buses halt at a traffic signal on GST Road, near the stopover, commuters risk their lives by sprinting to board buses. When they spot their routes number not halting, they run helter-skelter on the pavements, which are broken and encroached upon by vendors.

It is common to see a few commuters running on the carriageway disrupting free movement of vehicular traffic. MTC officials assured to do the needful.
