A couple jumped to death from the roof of their apartment building in Pallavaram in the early hours of Friday. They had just returned from Puducherry.

Police sources said K.Arivazhagan (32) of Salem and working in a software company and Abirami (26), a postgraduate in computer applications and a native of Gobichettypalayam, Erode district, got married eight months ago. The couple moved into a rented flat, located on the fourth floor of a building on P.V.Vaidyalinga Salai, Pallavaram, soon after their marriage. Abirami was a homemaker.

As Arivazhagan took his day off on Thursday on account of Ugadi, the couple went to Puducherry.

The girl’s relatives told police that she had spoken to her father briefly around 9 p.m., and that Abirami sounded upset.

Police told reporters that the couple had an argument. Around 3.30 a.m., they jumped from the roof of their apartment and died instantly.

The relatives told police that the couple had only minor problems. They would pacify each other and become normal selves soon after. They travelled out of the city quite often.

Arivazhagan, working with Cognizant, was selected for a project in the United States. The couple had received their visas and were scheduled to leave by the end of April, the policemen added.
