A 31-year-old woman was clubbed to death at her house in Pallavaram in the early hours on Thursday. Her gold chain weighing around 10 sovereigns is missing.

Police said Indra, wife of Murugadass, was living on V. O. C. Street, Pachaiamman Nagar in Zamin Pallavaram along with their two sons, Kishore and Anish. As her husband was working in Qatar, her parents hailing from Puliyangudi in Tirunelveli district too were living with her.

Her parents had gone to their native place a week ago to attend a wedding. On Wednesday, Indra asked a woman neighbour to sleep in her house. Around 5.30 a.m., Vijaykumar, Indra's brother-in-law, living on Kambar Street nearby, who was on his morning walk, noticed Indra lying on the floor inside the house.

Shocked, he cried for help and also informed police. Police suspect the incident to have taken place between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.

Suspecting the involvement of only one assailant, police said her ‘thaali' chain was missing, while rings and bangles were intact. Property inside the house was not touched. They did not rule out the involvement of person known to the family.

The woman, who had sustained critical injuries on her head, was found lying in a pool of blood. She had bled to death soon after the assault. She was rushed to the Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
