Valuables missing

A private security guard posted at a well-known retail clothing store in Spencer’s Plaza, allegedly fled after stealing expensive goods and cash from the store. Police suspect the overall worth of the loss to be close to Rs. 30 lakh.

According to police sources, the suspect Vishwajit (25), a native of Orissa was attached to a private security firm in T. Nagar. After getting off duty on Friday night, he is suspected to have returned to the store in the wee hours of Saturday and sneaked in after opening a door with duplicate keys he had made earlier. Staff, who opened the store on Saturday morning, found 300gms of gold and diamond jewellery, 15 watches, other valuables and cash missing from inside, sources said. Following a complaint lodged by store manager Mark, Thousand Lights police registered a case and investigations are underway. A special team has gone to Orissa, sources added.
