April 10, 2010 03:09 am | Updated 03:25 am IST - CHENNAI:

A.R. Rahman has completed composing a rough cut of the anthem penned by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for the World Classical Tamil Conference.

According to sources, the track was recently played to Mr. Karunanidhi. Member of Parliament Kanimozhi and poet Vairamuthu were present.

On the rough cut that he listened to, Mr. Vairamuthu said: “This song will be to Tamil Nadu and Tamilians what Vande Mataram is to India.”

Starting with the phrase “Pirappokkum,” which is also the theme of the conference, the song has references to the five epics of Tamil literature.
