Two youths snatch cash bag from woman

A woman who was returning home from a bank was robbed of her handbag containing Rs.1.42 lakh and valuables in Anna Nagar on Monday.

According to police, M. Udayakumari (58), daughter of a former Congress MLA, withdrew the cash from a nationalised bank and was waiting for autorickshaw. Two youths who came on a motorcycle snatched her bag and escaped.

Stolen in bus

In another case, R. Lakshmi (48) of Kundrathur, lodged a complaint with the Vadapalani police that her purse containing Rs.50,000 was stolen in a bus on Monday.

According to police, the woman mortgaged her gold jewellery in a bank and got Rs.50,000 loan towards hospital expenses of her husband. She boarded a bus from Kundrathur to Vadapalani. On reaching the destination, she realised that her purse kept in a handbag was missing.

Two boys drown

Two school boys drowned in a temple tank in Villivakkam on Monday.

According to police, M. Aravindan (11) studying in Standard Vi and J. Santosh (7) studying in Standard III, both residents of Villivakkam, did not return from school on Monday.

While their parents alerted the police, local people informed them about school uniforms found close to the Damodara Perumal temple tank.

Fire service personnel searched the tank and retrieved the bodies of the boys. The Villivakkam police are investigating.
