Three-year-old girl found dead

The decomposed body of a three-year-old girl was found inside a bush near a godown belonging to the Civil Supplies Department in Tiruvottiyur on Tuesday. Police suspect it to be a case of murder as strangulation marks were visible on the child’s neck.

Police sources said the victim, identified as R. Rithika of Sathuma Nagar in Tiruvottiyur, was reportedly missing from Sunday evening. Her mother, Selvi (28), who runs an idli shop near her home, lodged a complaint with the Tiruvottiyur police.

At 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, some members of the public alerted the police after spotting the decomposed body of a child in the bushes near the godown on Mettu Street in Sathuma Nagar. Tiruvottiyur police conducted a preliminary investigation and the body was later identified by Selvi, sources said. It was sent to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem.

Two held for robbery

The Rajamangalam police on Monday arrested two persons on charges of robbing a man of his cell phone, a gold ring and a sum of Rs.500. One of them was later identified as the mastermind behind the robbing of Rs.8.34 lakh from two collection agents in Villivakkam in December last.

Police sources said that Karthikeyan alias Karti (22) of Selavayal and Rajapandi alias Pandi (27) of Kodungaiyur had intercepted Bencilliah, owner of a fast food outlet near Sembium on Saturday and robbed him. Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Rajamangalam police arrested the duo.

Upon questioning it was known that Rajapandi was the mastermind behind the robbery from two collection agents of a private finance firm on 2nd Main Road, Thillai Nagar 4th Street in Villivakkam on December 9, 2009.

Two others, Ranjith (22) and Hariharan (22), both from Kodungaiyur, involved in the robbery had been lodged in Puzhal prison, sources said.

Gold jewellery worth Rs.1.4 lakh, a sum of Rs.5.7 lakh and a motorcycle were recovered from Rajapandi in connection with the case. Rajapandi and Karthikeyan were remanded to custody and sent to Puzhal prison.

Man kills wife, child

A 31-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife and 40-day-old girl child to death in Kannambakkam village in Tiruvallur on Tuesday.

Jaishankar, a resident of Vembedu village in Ponneri taluk, and Gautami (22) got married less than a year ago. Gautami had come to her native village for delivery and Jaishankar had come there on Monday night. Early Tuesday morning, he was seen running out of the house. His mother-in-law alerted the neighbours and he was caught and handed over to the police subsequently. In a complaint, she accused Jaishankar of demanding dowry.

The Arambakkam police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC. Investigations are on.
