Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a Tamil Nadu Electricity Board official who allegedly took a bribe from a contractor for clearing a bill.

According to sources in the agency , contractor S. Ayyappan (32) of Avadi lodged a complaint that Assistant Executive Engineer R. Rukmangathan (40) of Medavakkam sub-division had demanded 15 per cent commission to forward a bill for Rs. 1.75 lakh.

A special team arrested the official after his driver S. Jaishankar (38) received the bribe money. The two were produced in a Chengalpet court and remanded to judicial custody, the sources added.
