The Principal Sessions Court here on Wednesday refused to hear the bail plea moved by an advocate on behalf of Swathi murder accused Ramkumar, as the City Public Prosecutor raised serious doubts about the locus standi of the lawyer, alleging that he had not obtained the consent of the accused or his family for moving the application.

“The advocate has moved the application with a clear intention to get publicity,” City Public Prosecutor M.L. Jegan said and sought the court to direct advocate G. Krishnamurthy to prove that he has got the consent.

Several other advocates also moved intervening applications when the plea came up for hearing before Principal Sessions Judge G. Jayachandran. But the judge refused to accept the applications making it clear that he won’t hear the bail plea until the doubts raised by the prosecution were cleared.

The judge then directed Mr. Krishnamurthy to file a reply to the contentions of the prosecution through an affidavit, and adjourned the hearing to July 15.
