Swamy seeks resignation of HR & CE Minister

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has demanded the resignation of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister K.R. Periakaruppan in view of a Supreme Court order on the Chidambaram temple.

The Supreme Court had restrained the executive officer of the temple from putting up any new construction or demolishing any structure in the temple.

Dr. Swamy alleged that the executive officer, on the instruction of the Minister, demolished ancient structures violating HR and CE rules. Either the Minister should resign or the Chief Minister shift him to another portfolio, demanded Dr. Swamy, while talking to reporters here on Wednesday. The Janata Party leader said the World Intellectual Property Organisation had rejected the patent application of the Electronic Corporation of India's electronic voting machine.

The European Patent Organisation had treated as withdrawn the ECIL application as the Corporation had failed to pay examination fee or place written request for examining the machine.

Dr. Swamy urged the Prime Minister to take early action in naming the new Madurai airport as Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar International airport as his proposal had been accepted by the Civil Aviation Ministry. He thanked Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for welcoming the proposal.
