Hours after an aged woman was brutally attacked and robbed in Tiruvottiyur on Monday, a special police team arrested the lone suspect involved in the case.

R. Baby Ammal (70) of Gandhi Nagar Main Road was found unconscious in a pool of blood by her son, R. Chandrasekhar (36), who retuned home from work on Monday evening. The victim managed to tell her son that C. Koti had attacked her and stolen valuables from the house.

Acting on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Washermenpet) T. Senthil Kumar, a police team arrested Koti alias Koteeswaran (43) of Sathumanagar in Tiruvottiyur. The accused was a friend of Chandrasekhar and knew when Baby Ammal would be alone at home. His intention was to murder the woman and steal jewellery from the house.

Investigators recovered 10 sovereigns of jewellery, silver articles, a mobile phone, wrist watches and Rs.1,300 from Koti.

He was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody. The condition of Baby Ammal, who was admitted to a private hospital, was said to be stable, police sources said.
