Special yoga sessions for Corporation staff

The Chennai Corporation has commenced special yoga sessions for 18,000 of its employees.

Inaugurating the yoga training session at Ripon Building on Thursday, Mayor M.Subramanian said “The free yoga sessions for employees is being organised by the Corporation for the first time at a cost of Rs.18 lakh.”

A total of 250 employees from six departments of the civic body participated in the session on Thursday. Other departments and zonal offices would be covered shortly, he said.

A total of 15 trainers would conduct yoga sessions for two hours a day for the employees. Already, one lakh students and 100 teachers of Corporation schools have been given yoga training. The civic body has also given yoga training for 1,200 drivers.

Mr. Subramanian also inaugurated a free medical screening programme for the Corporation employees. “Health cards are being issued to the employees and appropriate treatment will be given,” he added.

The Corporation employees should make optimum use of the free medical screening facility, he said. Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni participated.
