A row of five shops in a business complex on 3 Avenue in Anna Nagar were targeted by burglars in the early hours on Thursday. The burglars cut open the shutter locks and stole computer equipment, silver artefacts and over Rs. 62,000 in cash.
Police said the burglary took place on the second floor of the two-storey building belonging to Noor Mohammed (63) who had rented out nine portions in it to various business establishments.
A shop employee who came to the complex on Thursday morning noticed that the gates to the first and second floor entrances were cut open. Locks on five shops, including two parcel agencies, a DTP centre, a finance firm and the office of a construction company, were broken.
While a total of Rs. 49,000, silver artefacts and computers were stolen from the parcel offices, Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 5,500 and computers were stolen from the finance firm and DTP centre respectively. Even though the burglars broke into the construction firm, they only found files and office furniture, police added.
Anna Nagar police have registered a case of burglary.
