January 19, 2011 01:27 am | Updated 01:27 am IST - CHENNAI:

Three private security guards allegedly facilitated the theft of 7,500 kg of steel from a company where they were deployed for duty. Two scrap merchants, who paid Rs.70,000 to the security guards and took away the steel, were arrested.

Stolen property recovered

The stolen property was recovered from the premises of the suspects, police sources said.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Thoraipakkam) K.N. Murali, the security guards Dhoni Singh (25), Gulzar (24) and Ambrazul (26) of Assam, employees of a private security agency based in Saidapet, were on duty at a steel firm in Karapakkam on Sunday night.

The security guards connived with scrap merchants Sheikh Mohideen (35) of Guindy and his partner Arockiaraj (33) of Thoraipakkam and facilitated the theft of the steel consignment.

The material was loaded in a lorry and taken away.

One of the security guards hacked into the security system and switched off the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) network in the company.

“Images of the guard meddling with the security system have been recorded. Sheikh and Arockiaraj were arrested and the entire stolen property was recovered from their godown. Special teams have been formed to apprehend the three security guards,” Mr. Murali said.
