One of the objectives of the Tamil Internet Conference was to integrate Tamil scholars with information technology experts, said M. Anandakrishnan, chairman of the organising committee for the meet, on Saturday.
“Tamil scholars seemed to have an aversion for computers while computer wizards did not take a liking for Tamil language,” he said, explaining why Tamil is lagging behind other Indian languages such as Hindi and Telugu on the Internet.
Addressing a meeting organised by Tamil Media Club, Mr. Anandakrishnan said the Internet conference would overcome the hurdles by integrating the groups.
“The Tamil scholars who are visiting Coimbatore from across the world will get an exposure to computers,” he said. Stressing that a race would not survive if its language was destroyed, he said the conference would analyse the impediments to the growth of the language while exploring new ways to further its growth. “There was a belief that English skill was required to handle computers.”
