The Russian Centre of Science and Culture here will start Russian language training programmes for college students through video conferencing in October.
“Students of 20 colleges in Tamil Nadu will receive training in Russian language through the programme,” said P. Thangappan, general secretary of Indo-Russian Cultural and Friendship Society, Tamil Nadu.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a photo exhibition on the ‘World Classical Tamil Conference held recently in Kovai and Indo-Russian Literary Relations', that began on Friday at the centre. The exhibition will be open for a week.
Photographs depicting the contribution of Russian scholars to the World Classical Tamil Conference are also part of the display at the exhibition. Inaugurating the exhibition, Acting Consul-General, Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, Sergei Soloviev, said that the industrial, cultural and economic cooperation between Russia and India was noteworthy.
He said that Russia was one of the first countries to recognise independent India.Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture Vladimir Mariy and Honorary Secretary of Indo-Russian Dance and Music Illam, Sirkali Siva Chidambaram, participated.
