A two-day Russian education fair ‘Days of Russian Higher Education in India' got under way here at the Russian Cultural Centre here on Saturday.
About six universities are participating at the fair, where the representatives hope to attract more Indian students.
According to representatives, it is essential to hold such exhibitions in India and offer counselling on opportunities in the country to get a steady number of students.
“Russia is cheaper than the U.K. and the practical exposure courses such as medical sciences offer makes it a good bet for international students,” said Dmitry V. Bazhenov, vice-rector and member of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
He said that the Russian Federation always takes steps to ensure safety of students.
“Recently, postgraduate programme in dental science was approved by the Dental Council of India, so we hope to attract more students to pursue dental science,” said C. Ravi Chandran, Managing Director, Study Abroad Educational Consultants.
Along with medical education, representatives from technical and engineering institutions are offering a glimpse of their colleges.
Earlier, the exhibition was inaugurated by Mayor M. Subramaniam. N.A. Listopadov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in South India was present.
The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
