A school principal has been acquitted of the charges of caning and abusing a standard X girl student after her father withdrew the police complaint claiming he had “realised his mistake.”
Justice C.T. Selvam of the Madras High Court, hearing a criminal original petition by Esther Kirupakaran, principal of the Christopher Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Panamarathupatti in Salem district, “quashed and disposed” of the petition on file before Salem Judicial Magistrate Court No. 1.
Subsequently, the Salem Judicial Magistrate Court acquitted the principal and conveyed the information to the Panamarathupatti police, which had registered an FIR.
On January 5, 2009, Ms. Esther Kirupakaran was summoned to the police station for an enquiry on the complaint from P. Kamaraj that she had beaten up his daughter for not attending classes regularly. The principal was detained for nearly an hour.
