Porur flyover work to begin on March 15

Work on the Porur flyover will begin on March 15, Highways Minister M.P.Saminathan said here on Tuesday.

Answering questions after an inspection of the Anna Salai stretch in front of the upcoming secretariat building, he said that the land acquisition for the flyover had been completed. Work was in progress to lay a service road in the area where the flyover was slated to be built.

The work on the flyover will be completed in 18 months, he added.

Pazhaverkkadu bridge

On the other works in the suburbs of Chennai, he said that the Pazhaverkkadu bridge was now completed. It is expected to be opened for traffic on March 17.

On the new alignment coming up in front of the upcoming secretariat building, he said that Rs.2.5 crore was being spent on putting up new facilities in the area. This included road works at a cost of Rs.80 lakh, refurbishing and expansion of two existing bridges (Rs.15 lakh), laying of new sewage line (about Rs.40 lakh), modification of the existing subway (Rs.25 lakh), purchase and maintenance of plants and greenery along the stretch (Rs.10 lakh) and building of a new divider wall (Rs.40 lakh). The entire work around the Secretariat will be completed by the middle of next week.

The subway was being given aesthetic touches in line with the new secretariat building and will have a glass and steel façade. Much of the original structure underground will be retained, he added.
