Policeman suspended

The Inspector of Nungambakkam police station C.Natesan was placed under suspension on the charge of dereliction of duty on Wednesday, according to police sources.

Though there was an advance intelligence input that some persons were planning to attack the ‘Makkal TV', a Tamil television channel, the local police did not take effective steps to prevent the attack, the sources said on Wednesday.

Suspected CPM cadres threw stones on the Makkal TV office on the Subbarao Avenue causing damage to window panes. Some staff members were also allegedly injured. The channel had broadcast a news raising doubts about the cause of the death of CPM leader W.R. Varada Rajan on March 4. The office was attacked the next morning.

Shop burgled

Burglars broke into a shop dealing in tiles in Koyambedu on Tuesday night and decamped with Rs.27.74 lakh in cash.

According to police sources, when the owner, Settiappan, came to open the shop located in a commercial complex on Bhaktavatchalam Street, the main shutter was found open. The burglars had forced open the shutter and stolen the cash kept in a locker.

On a complaint lodged by the shop manager Senthilnathan, the Koyambedu police have registered a case.
