An unidentified woman tricked and robbed another woman of her gold jewellery at Sathankadu on Saturday.

Thiruvottiyur police said the victim Srividya (27), a person with disability and a resident of Thilakar Nagar in Thiruvottiyur, was approached by the accused following a matrimonial ad placed in a newspaper by her father. On Saturday, the woman, believed to be in her mid-30s, had met the victim and family at their house and informed that her brother was coming to see Srividya.

Therefore, she had persuaded the family and taken Srividya with her to the beauty parlour in Sathankadu. Upon arrival, she had asked Srividya to remove the jewels before going into the parlour. Srividya did so and returned to find the woman missing with her jewellery weighing 10 sovereigns, police added.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim at Thiruvottiyur police, an investigation is on.
