The Madras High Court has directed the government advocate to furnish copies of complaints of sexual harassment of teachers of a school in Kancheepuram district to a committee constituted in accordance with a Supreme Court order.
Ordering notice on the petition, Justice D. Hariparanthaman said the committee should file its report in three months. Fourteen teachers of Sri Krishna Middle School at Little Kancheepuram prayed for a direction to government authorities to constitute an independent complaints committee as per the judgment of the Supreme Court in the Visakha case with regard to sexual harassment by the correspondent, Rajagopal, and headmistress (in-charge) of the institution, based on their complaints dated December 31 last year and May 11. When the matter came up before Mr. Justice Hariparanthaman, the government advocate said there was a committee in each district, constituted as per the Supreme Court order, to look into allegations of sexual harassment in aided schools.
The government had no objection to direct the panel in Kancheepuram district to enquire into the petitioners' allegations.
