Swami Sadasiva Giri of Sri Gnanananda Thapovanam of Tamil Nadu conferred the ‘Nadhabrahmam’ title on N. Ramani, noted flautist, at the inauguration of Isai Natya Nataka Vizha of Narada Gana Sabha on Saturday.
The award comprised a citation, shawl, a gold plate and a cash purse of Rs. 25,000. On the occasion, the Senior Musician award was presented to Jayalakshmi Santhanam, who received a citation, shawl, a silver plate and cash prize of Rs. 15,000.
Tirunelveli P. Subramania Iyer Award, which carried a citation, shawl and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, was presented to nagaswara vidwan S.R.G. Rajanna.
Speaking on the occasion, Swami Sadasiva Giri said music was the natural way to reach God. He said music was very pleasing, edifying and elevating. Those who sing not only attain elevation but also help those around them to rise. R. Krishnamoorthy, president of the Sabha, said, this year, a total of 154 concerts would be held at the Sabha.
N.V. Subramaniam, one of the patrons of the Sabha, said Mr. Ramani always established his individuality and identity in every situation.
