A non-governmental organisation's efforts have led to the reunion of a 60-year-old man with his family after three decades. Narayanappa of Guntakal in Ananthapur district in Andhra Pradesh went missing from a hospital in Bangalore in 1977, when he was admitted for mental disorder. His family tried to locate him in vain. After nearly three decades, Narayanappa was arrested by the Madurai City Police in October 2009 under Tamil Nadu (Chennai) Prevention of Beggars Act and produced before Judicial Magistrate Court-II at Madurai. The court ordered his detention for one year at a government rehabilitation centre and he was lodged at Mambakam in Tiruvallur district, according to a release issued by the Trust for Education and Rehabilitation of Disabled, Orphans and Destitute (TERDOD), Vichur. After his release from the centre, Narayanappa was handed over to the TERDOD for rehabilitation. Narayanappa disclosed bare details about his hometown and family.
Subsequently, a group of TERDOD staff who could speak Telugu was sent to Guntakal to trace Narayanappa's family. Finally, the TERDOD staff located his family at Vajrakarur near Guntakal.
The senior citizen's son, Chinna Aanjaneyalu, who was five months old when Narayanappa went missing, reached Tiruvallur on January 21. Narayanappa got reunited with his family in the presence of Tiruvallur District Collector, T.P.Rajesh, TERDOD release added.
