Man murdered

March 08, 2010 02:11 am | Updated 02:11 am IST - CHENNAI:

A 24-year-old man allegedly murdered his father-in-law following a quarrel at the latter's house in Tiruvottiyur on Saturday. Police have launched a hunt for the accused and his accomplice for abetting the killing.

Sources said the accused, Kiran (24), a container truck driver, was married to Maheshwari (21) a few years ago and was residing on Erneshwarar Kovil Street in Eranavoor. A few days ago, the couple had a quarrel and Maheshwari, with her two children, left for her parents' house at Kalyana Chetty Nagar in Tiruvottiyur.

On Saturday morning, Kiran went to Tiruvottiyur to convince her to return home. Maheshwari did not agree and her father, Munusami (48), intervened and assaulted Kiran, sources said.

An irked Kiran returned with his friend, Madhavan (26), around 11 p.m. and in a fit of rage repeatedly stabbed Munusami with a screwdriver and fled. Munusami was rushed to the Government Stanley Hospital by Maheshwari and neighbours. He died on the way, sources said.

Following a complaint lodged by Maheshwari, Tiruvottiyur police registered a case of murder.
