Rajeev Bhargava, Director and Senior Fellow, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi, has been selected for the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for the year 2011.
The award, presented by the Malcolm & Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust, consists of a citation and a cash award of Rs.2 lakh, which would be given on November 21, the death anniversary of Malcolm Adiseshiah, a noted economist.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, H.B.N. Shetty, Executive Trustee of the Trust, said they received nine nominations for the award this year.
“The Trust does not accept nomination from individuals, somebody else has to nominate the person,” he said. Since 2000, when the Trust instituted the award, it has been presented to 10 outstanding social scientists.
The jury for this edition of the award comprised Prof. Suresh D. Tendulkar, Prof. Gopal Guru and Prof. M.N. Panini.
Besides the annual award function, the Trust conducts various activities such as offering training programme for teachers of economics and gives the best teacher award for economics, Mr. Shetty added.
