Traffic on Pallavaram– Kunrathur Road in Anakaputhur was disrupted for an hour when crew of Metropolitan Transport Corporation resorted to a flash strike after a commuter assaulted a bus conductor on Friday.

Shankar Nagar police, who have registered a case following a complaint from the crew, said PP 66 bus from Vandalur to Poonamallee reached Anakaputhur bus stand at 3.15 p.m., when a commuter picked a quarrel with the conductor Shanmugham (45) and driver Nagaraj (47) for not halting near a cinema theatre.

The commuter, who had the support of two more men, assaulted Shanmugham and fled from the spot.

As news about the incident spread, the crew of other bus services on the route stopped their vehicles and joined in the protest.

However, after police pacified the agitated MTC staff, they resumed their work. Shanmugham and Nagaraj lodged a police complaint and commuters who were travelling in their bus were accommodated in other services. A search is on for the three men.
