Kurukshetra festival from February 2

The fifth edition of Kurukshetra, the annual techno-management festival organised by students of the College of Engineering, Guindy, will be held from February 2 to 5. Supported by the UNESCO, the festival this year has been built around the theme ‘Past, Present and Future'. Talking to mediapersons, Anna University Vice-Chancellor Mannar Jawahar said about 16,000 students from over 80 countries would participate in 48 events, to be held both on-site and online. The students were attempting to enable virtual participation in the lecture series through live telecast over the internet for students who could not attend in person, he said.

Infosys CEO Kris Gopalakrishnan; Rediff.com CEO Ajit Balakrishnan; HP Labs India Director Sudhir Dixit and archaeologist Michael A. Cremo are among the guest speakers. German physicist and Nobel laureate Peter Andreas Grunberg and structural engineer Leslie Earl Robertson will address the festival through videoconference.

Three companies have come forward to provide paid internships to select students based on their performance at the festival, said M. Sekar, Dean, CEG. Workshops on the design of hovercrafts, wildlife photography and rocketry will be the highlights. ISRO will have an exhibition on Chandrayan. The exhibitions that would form part of the festival include one on arms and ammunition by the Police Department, he said. An entrepreneurship summit would coincide with the festival. The total prize money for various competitions is Rs.10 lakh. Prof. Jawahar said AICTE Chairman S.S. Mantha would preside over the university's graduation day to be held on February 1. As many as 2,737 undergraduate and postgraduate students would receive their degrees and a total of 196 gold medals would be awarded.
