Jewellery, cash stolen

Gold jewellery weighing about 25 sovereigns and Rs.3,000 cash were stolen from a house in Pozhichalur near Tambaram on Wednesday. Shankar Nagar police said Umapathy, a former government employee, lives with his wife Prema, a school teacher, in Prem Nagar, Pozhichalur. He had gone to a relative's house in Villupuram, while his wife had gone to work. After school, Prema went to her sister's house nearby and reached her house around 8 p.m. She noticed the front grill gate and main door broken open. Two almirahs inside the house were broken open and the valuables were stolen.
