A total of 64 resolutions, including one pertaining to renaming of 52 roads after Tamil scholars and those who contributed to the growth of the language, were adopted at the Chennai Corporation Council meeting on Tuesday.
Other resolutions included those approving widening of a bridge on Wallajah Road across the Buckingham Canal at an estimated cost of Rs.1.40 crore, strengthening of Kodambakkam bridge at a cost of Rs.4.73 crore and procurement of 28 compactors at a cost of Rs.5.35 crore.
The Council also passed a resolution approving allocation of Rs.10 lakh from Ward Improvement Fund of each councillor every year for the construction of stormwater drains in the city.
Resolutions approving construction of stormwater drains in Captain Cotton Canal watershed at a cost of around Rs.90 crore were also adopted.
The council approved two parts of the stormwater drain project in Cooum watershed at a cost of Rs.66.97 crore and Rs.4.48 crore.
The corporation would take over a community hall on three ground of land in Arumbakkam from the Tamil Nadu Housing Board. A total of 419 new beneficiaries would be identified for construction of houses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
The civic body would recommend 1,951 names of poor senior citizens to the district collector for inclusion in pension scheme. The 282 Chennai Schools would receive Rs.3.49 lakh for taking measures towards conserving their environment.
Other resolutions pertained to introduction of three new courses – security service, pharma retail and computer hardware and networking – at community colleges of the civic body. Permission was also accorded for establishing maths laboratories in two Chennai Schools.
