Held for staging demonstration

The Nungambakkam police on Monday arrested 46 women and two men belonging to a fishermen association on charges of staging a demonstration and attempting to march towards the house of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram. According to police sources, the women raised slogans condemning the killing of a fisherman of Nagapattinam allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy. They urged the Central government to take appropriate action to prevent such attacks. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nungambakkam) M. Jagabarsali said the agitators were picked up near Shastri Bhavan. They were released in the evening.
