Residents of Anna Nagar Western Extension, including Officers’ Colony and TVS Colony, were planning to aggressively pursue a raft of issues with civic authorities in the new year. They were particularly keen on having work related to stormwater drain channels expedited.

All these plans have gone with the wind, literally, as Vardah uprooted around 50 full-grown trees, and residents’ immediate priority now is restoring the greenery in the neighbourhood.

“We’ll be occupied with greening efforts. Imagine living with fewer trees in Chennai, which is hot during most part of the year!” says V. Rajagopal, president, Anna Nagar Western Extension Phase — II Residents Welfare Association.

Residents in Anna Nagar Western Extension have said new saplings would be planted in the neighbourhood after a discussion with the civic officials of Zone — 7 (Ambattur) of Greater Chennai Corporation on the kind of saplings to be sourced and how to find the manpower to carry out the exercise. Towards this end, a meeting between civic officials and residents will be organised.
