An armed gang with deadly weapons hacked a ward secretary of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to death at Johnsonpet here on Friday night. He suffered 15 cut injuries all over his body. Police sources said that Solairaj (52) was proceeding to party's office here when a gang of unidentified persons started attacking him with sickles and wooden logs. His cries brought the neighbours to the spot and after seeing them, the gang members ran away. He died on way to the Salem Government Medical College Hospital. On instructions from Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Singh five special squads under Deputy Commissioner of Police John Nicholson had been formed to nab the murderers.
