Electrotherm launches world’s largest induction furnace

Electrotherm (India) Ltd., a leader in induction technology, on Wednesday announced the launch of its 40T capacity medium frequency induction melting furnace, billed to be the world’s largest of its kind.

“This furnace is expected to be beneficial for economic steel making in the country and it will help bring down the cost and help in making billet (semi finished steel) cheaper by Rs.800 per tonne, Electrotherm India Limited Vice-President (Marketing) Sunil Kulkarani told a press conference here.

The machine was the world’s largest medium frequency induction melting furnace, he said.

“This largest medium frequency induction melting furnace has been launched after the success and encouraging results from the 25T and 30T furnaces from Electrotherm”, he added.

Stating that each machine costs about Rs.50 crore, he said his company had so far manufactured seven such units for sale to especially alloy steel manufacturers in the country.

He said in addition to the Indian market, Electrotherm has also been actively marketing its products in the global market.

He said his company expected to cross an annual turnover of Rs.2,000 crore in this fiscal.
