The Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials are concerned over the non-vacation of defence authorities from the old transmitter building located a few hundred metres away from the existing out gate of the airport.
According to AAI authorities sometime ago the Defence authorities ordered AAI to stop construction work and vacate the site. But, with the intervention of Chief Secretary K.S.Sripathi the work resumed.
However, the defence authorities have not vacated the 2,800 square metre transmitter building, which is located in an area at the centre of the construction activity. AAI authorities said the old transmitter building is the place required for installing air conditioning equipment meant for the upcoming terminal buildings.
Already the AAI had constructed a new transmitter station equipped with state-of-the art facilities at a total cost of Rs.3 crore. The building was ready by May this year. But, till now it has not been occupied and the old building was not handed over to the AAI.
Moreover, the main sub-station of the airport is coming up in and around the old transmitter building, which is heart of the on-going development project as essential services of lighting, power system and air-conditioning are situated here.
The air-conditioning equipment is expected to arrive by the first week of next month, before which the structures should be ready to install them. With the delay in handing over the building to the AAI, it would be difficult to install the new equipment. Already the work in and around the old transmitter building has been delayed by two months.
