DMK is the true Dravidian movement, says Karunanidhi

June 06, 2010 12:07 am | Updated 12:07 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Dradvida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the inheritor of ideals of Periyar and Anna, is the true Dravidian movement, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said on Saturday.

“DMK is the only party that has fully understood the true meaning of the word Dravidian and establishing the ideals,” he said, while admitting people from other parties from Namakkal and Salem districts to the DMK.

To drive home the point that the DMK had successfully weathered the splits and emerged victorious, the Chief Minister pointed out the divisions in the Congress also had not weakened the national party. “It is ruling the country,” he said.

Mr Karunanidhi said though the splinter groups, used the name of Anna and the DMK to hoodwink the people, the return of the cadres from these political parties to the DMK had proved that the DMK was the nursery and headquarters of the movement.

“You have proved wrong the predication that the splits in the DMK would eventually undermine its existence,” he said.

The Chief Minister said a true Dravidian movement was a self-respect movement, abiding by the principles of Anna and Periyar.

“Others are fake movements. You have realised that and returned to the DMK,” he said.
