Couple held for fraud

The Royapettah police on Monday arrested a couple on charges of furnishing fake documents at the U.S. Consulate here to obtain visa.

According to police, H. Taj Khan (48) of Triplicane and his wife T. Meharunissa (30) submitted copies of Income Tax returns, bank statements and other documents while seeking a tourist visa to the U.S.

On scrutiny, the Consulate authorities found the documents to be fake.

The accused told investigators that an agent based at Hyderabad had given them the fake documents, the sources said.

Burglary bid

An attempt was allegedly made to burgle a bank at J.J. Nagar. The incident came to light when officials opened the extension counter of the nationalised bank located on a private school campus at T.S.K. Nagar on Monday.
