A few dozen counterfeit motors resembling those of Larsen and Toubro were seized from an electrical goods store during a raid by the Tambaram police.

Police said that they were acting on a complaint from R. Sathish Kumar, assistant vice-president, Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR), about duplicate motors being used in pumps for houses and industrial establishments.

These machines were being sold at Rs. 800 each, the complainant said.

One of the motors, purchased from a store on Muthuranga Mudali Street, was tested in a laboratory and was found to be counterfeit. A complaint was lodged and a police team raided the store on Monday and seized the duplicate motors.

EIPR, a press note from the firm said, was an investigation agency specialising in anti-counterfeiting solutions by using offering services such as investigation of Intellectual Property Right violations, grey marketing evaluations and multi jurisdictional raids.
