The Chennai Corporation on Monday started a drive to verify the conditions of kitchens in recreation clubs in the city.

The Health Department officials sealed a kitchen and store of a club on Anna Salai and issued improvement notice to four clubs. According to officials, the four clubs have been served notices for improving the conditions in their kitchens under Section 279 of the Madras City Municipal Corporation Act 1919.

There are 62 recreation clubs in the city. The Chennai Corporation received a number of complaints on unhygienic conditions of kitchens in clubs. A total of 20 clubs located in all the ten zones of the city were raided.

The civic body has sealed around 40 kitchens in various hotels this year, according to an official.
