Commuters suffer due to ‘Bus Day celebration’

In yet another ‘Bus Day celebration’ incident in the city, college students hijacked an MTC bus, triggering some tension in Egmore, on Friday. As a result of this, commuters bound for Anna Square were put to hardship as students precariously rode atop the footboard and danced in the bus.

A senior official of the City Police said an MTC bus bearing no. 27H plying between Avadi and Anna Sqaure was taken over by the students of Presidency College in the morning hours near Kilpauk.

The sudden take over of the bus by the college students took the police officials completely unawares causing hardships to the commuters. The sudden take over of the bus took commuters by surprise. Based on the information received at the police control room, a police team rushed in and stopped the bus on Pantheon Road in Egmore. However, the students turned aggressive and a fight ensued between them and the police, and a few personnel were injured. Commuters went through anxious moments as a result.

A police official said two students have been detained for the incident. Commuters, who were on the bus, went through anxious moments when the the scuffle broke out. The commuters cited the ban on celebrating “Bus Day” and wanted the police to keep a strict watch on college students to prevent such incidents from happening in future.
