Chennai: Good response to Ladies Special trains

September 29, 2009 04:26 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 10:47 am IST - CHENNAI:

Women commuters’ response to the Ladies Specials now running between Tambaram and Beach is satisfactory and the load on the service is being monitored on day-to-day basis, said M. S. Jayanth, General Manager (In-charge), Southern Railway.

Participating in the RPF Raising Day function at Perambur recently, Mr. Jayanth said that on an average, about 2,200 women were travelling in the special trains. On lean days the number was 1,500 and on peak days it touched 3,000, which was a good load.

The purpose of the specials, he said, was to provide a distinct facility to women commuters for hassle-free commuting to their offices and back.

Mr. Jayanth said that there were demands from women commuters that the timings should be changed in the evening for better utilisation of the service.

The administration would have to study their demand before taking any decision as any change in the present timing might affect the existing commuters, Mr. Jayanth added.
