Bankers told to share intelligence with police

Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran has appealed to bankers to share intelligence on suspicious bank accounts and transactions with the police.

Interacting with a group of bank officials who had come to felicitate the bank fraud wing of the Central Crime Branch here on Tuesday, he said banks had developed advanced systems that could detect frauds.

“In cases where huge transactions are made by customers from foreign countries, the bank officials can alert the police. In many cases of net-banking frauds, withdrawals are made by suspects located outside the country.”

Mr. Rajendran said the bank officials had also appreciated the good work of cyber crime wing of the Chennai Police.

In a statement, Deputy Commissioner of Police C. Sridhar said representatives the Singapore-based Visa and Master Card companies had issued a certificate commending the good work Assistant Commissioner of Police (Bank Fraud Wing) D. Kandasamy.

He said the wing had registered 25 cases in the last one year and arrested 33 persons.
