Various advocates associations have decided to abstain from courts and tribunals on April 5 to protest against the National Commission for Higher Education and Research Bill and the Foreign Education Providers Bill.
The Madras High Court Advocates' Association (MHAA), at its executive committee meeting here on Thursday, resolved to join the call given by the Federation of District and Subordinate Courts Bar Associations of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry to boycott the courts on Monday in support of the demands.
The MHAA, under the presidentship of R.C. Paul Kanagaraj, also demanded that lawyers be allowed to argue their cases in Tamil. Members of the Tamil Nadu Advocates Association will abstain from courts on Monday, its president S. Prabakaran said.
He also criticised the entry of foreign law firms in the country.
The Women Lawyers' Association has decided to join the protest, according to its president D. Prasanna.
The federation said if the two Bills were made laws, the Bar Council of India and the State governments would be usurped of their powers.
Permitting the entry of foreign institutions would crush institutions in the country that were functioning well. By the proposed arrangement only the rich would be benefited in the matter of getting education.
